The 2005 Volvo S40 remains relatively the same as the previous model, however the sedan is now joined by a wagon counterpart, called the V50, for the new year.

Both styles offer two models: the base 2.4i and the sporty T5. The 2.4is come with a 2.4-liter, 168 horsepower 5-cylinder engine with 5-speed manual or automatic transmission; T5 models come with a 2.5-liter, 218 horsepower 5-cylinder engine with 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission.

Some of the standard safety features on all 2005 Volvo S40 models include: dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags, anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights and emergency trunk release.
